Soldering Tips

Featuring Gombrelli Guitars (GG USA)

Nobody is instantly good at soldering but I’ve compiled any EASY list to give you a quick boost.  Read these before you start and keep them in mind it will ramp you up really fast. Then all you’ll need is practice.

SOLDERING: You should use an iron hot enough to melt quickly and you should have a ‘get in and get out” attitude with the soldering iron when soldering.

  • Use 60/40 Rosin core
  • Have a fan or air cleaner running by your work area
  • Pre-tin Wires (Apply a little solder before soldering) or if on a Lug, Wrap, Touch Solder, then apply main solder
  • Don’t hold the iron there TOO long especially on Pots.
  • Solder suckers work MUCH better then solder flux to remove solder (solder suckers remove old solder when things have been “over” soldered).
  • Shiny is ALWAYS good, dull is not so good.
  • Don’t move wires while solder is cooling
  • Get in and Get out if possible (holding the iron for a long time can mess up the trace and screw up the pot).
