HEIGHT adjustment WHAMMY BARS (and more)

Adjustments

I’ll go into the details on the bars later but here’s some tips:

Most players have their own person “position” they like their whammy bar to ride in, they may not know it yet so that’s the challenge, especially when you have your first guitar.

Whammy Height: You can adjust the height of the whammy with a vice grip. Remove the whammy from the guitar, Put the thread end into the vice with the threads lower than the jaws and cover it with a thick soft cloth. HAND bend it either up or down.  A lot of player like it lower or higher it depends on a lot of factors.

    Here’s a list of Tips

  • Bigger hands tend to like the whammy higher
  • Players that pick close to the string with flat position generally like it lower
  • If you tend to play in a position (like over the middle) this can affect how LONG you like the bar. I have no adjustment for that, buy a shorter one 😉
  • I like them a bit lower
  • Different bars have different heights before the bend, if this is too short and you bend to low it may be hard to clear the pot knobs.
  • Many player prefer LIGHT friction to moving the back (in and out of position) there a great way to accomplish this is by using Plumber Tape on the thread, not too much.
  • Whammys CAN break. Keep that in mind.
  • I like the end of the bar to fit right in the palm of my hand.
  • When changing strings all at once, take the whammy OUT of the guitar. Your normally can’t turn it when the bridge is flat.
