This page is a collection of measurement on different Stratocaster components. It will be filled up as I get around to adding things.
Lots of products out there say they are “for a Stratocaster” but a lot really don’t match sizes, which is COMPLETELY annoying. So hopeful this page will clear some things up. (For example, if you buy pickguard screws on the internet or Amazon it’s very likely they won’t exactly fit, their heads tend to be too large.
Tubing Spacers
Rubber: 1/8 (3.1mm to 3.3mm) Inside Diameter (ID) – 1/4 Inch (6.7 to 7 mm) Outside Diameter (OD) – Length is typically 10mm or 3/8 Inch (9mm is just fine)
– Notes
- Some non standard ones have a wall that is too small, you need a large enough wall to support good compression resistance but not too much.
- Slightly larger ID is ok
- Slightly Short length is also ok, I actually prefer about 9mm so they don’t get so compressed.
Single Coil Pickup Screws (single coil – NON BEVEL)
- There’s a tons of “Pickup Screws” out there but the ones below is what a genuine one looks like.
- Length: 18mm-19mm (11/16 to 3/4) shorter is a bit better
- Head size: 1/5 Inch
- Head Type: Phillips head
- Material: Chrome
- Notice the end have as a cut into it (what is that called?) it makes it thread a lot easier.
- Pictures below are of a packaged Fender Screw.
HUMBUCKER Pickup Screws
Fender humbucking screws have the following measurements:
- Length: 55/64 (a close match is 7/8 of an inch or 27/32 (shorter) – Caliper measured
- Head Size: 3/16 diameter
- Screw Type: Phillips
- Spring Length: 23/32 (Close measurements 11/16 (shorter) 3/4 (Longer) – it’s between the two.
Humbucker Screw arrangements
- Fender Humbuckers (new ones) have the ability to accept screws in either 2 position or center position. They are 3 screw slots on each side of the humbucker itself.
- Pickguard: When it comes to the pickguard, they are typically 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Usually the two is on top.
Pickguard Screws
I don’t have pictures yet, but here are some measurements. Even Fender varies a little over time but these values are definitely pretty consistent. The down side of the larger shorter screws is that they don’t seat quite as well and they tend to stick up over the bevel in the pickguard.
The head on the “Fender” pickguard screws tend to be smaller with a slightly different bevel than the ones typically found out there.
Fender OEM
- Head Size Diameter: 5.1 mm (This is slightly small than a lot of clones)
- Length: 13.16mm (This is slightly longer than a lot of clones)
Clone (there are variations on this)
- Head Diamter: 5.7 mm
- Length: 12mm
